Watch the celebration and scientific workshop on the legacy of the two ERS satellite missions. The events were held on 27 September at ESRIN, ESA's centre for Earth observation, in Frascati, Italy.
ESA's Envisat observation satellite yesterday completed its 50,000th circuit of Earth - travelling 2.25 billion km since its launch nearly a decade ago.

The ERS missions pioneered the technique of processing satellite radar data into digital elevation models, as shown here of Bachu and the nearby Tian Shan mountains. A digital elevation model is a 3D relief map to study changes in the terrain.
Earth Observation Events
5 October 2011 - 6 October 2011
This User Meeting is the second one of the project and will be hosted at the National Maritime College of Ireland (NMCI) in Cork on the 05-06 October 2011. The event is planned to span the whole day of 05 to 06 October.
The meeting will allow participants to explain how the GlobWave data is being used in a series of lectures and posters, as well as the project team outlining the latest developments.
Meeting registration deadline: 04 October 2011
29 November 2011 - 2 December 2011
This joint ESA-SOLAS-EGU conference aims at bringing together the EO and SOLAS communities, as well as scientific institutions and space agencies involved in the observation, characterisation and forecasting of ocean-atmosphere interactions and their impacts.
Paper submission deadline and Symposium: 29 November - 02 December 2011
7 December 2011 - 9 December 2011
'Advances in geological remote sensing' is this year's theme for the Geological Remote Sensing Group (GRSG) AGM. The event to be held in Frascati, Italy, also includes the second OGEO workshop aimed at bridging the oil and gas sector with the EO Service community. The GRSG will address applied and fundamental research that explores the application of remote sensing in mapping, monitoring and understanding the relationship between geology and the environment.
Paper submission deadline: 30 September 2011
23 - 27 April 2012
The European Space Agency is organising the first 'Sentinel-2 Preparatory Symposium', which will be hosted in ESA-ESRIN, Frascati, Italy, from 23 to 27 April 2012.
The Symposium is open to ESA Principal Investigators, co-investigators, Sentinel-2 users, scientists, students, representatives from national, European and international space agencies and value adding industries.
Earth Observation Resources
For many years, ESA's Eduspace website has been a window on the world for secondary students and teachers, providing an invaluable introduction to Earth observation and its applications. The site has now been updated and improved with new case studies and a Greek version.
