The World Climate Research Programme's Open Science Conference begins today in Denver, USA. The week-long event brings together climate scientists from over 80 countries to discuss the latest findings on climate and identify pressing questions.
New versions of the ENVISAT MERIS Level 1b and Level 2 processors, IPF 6.04, will be activated in the ESA Ground Segment, replacing the currently operational IPF 5.06.
26 October 2011
Following the positive quality assessment of the new off-line processed Level 2 version 5.02 data by the SCIAMACHY Quality Working Group, the products have been released to the user community.
26 October 2011
A major inconsistency in the provision of GOMOS auxiliary data is impacting the operational processing.
24 October 2011
The new processor baselines v500 for level 1 and level 2 soil moisture and ocean salinity have successfully been deployed in the operational processing chain.

GPOD is a Grid Processing environment offered to scientists for on-demand EO data processing. The service operates since 2002 and a permanent call for opportunities exists since 2005. SMOS testbeds provide on-demand processing service for SMOS data processors: Level 1A/B/C, Level 2 soil moisture (SM) and Level 2 ocean salinity (OS).

Earth Observation Events
23 - 24 February 2012
The European Space Agency is hosting an industry workshop in ESA-ESRIN in Frascati, Italy on 23 - 24 February 2012. Earth Observation (EO) data and services can deliver significant benefits to the scientific, public and private sector communities and this workshop examines the potential value of this data to the insurance industry.
23 - 27 April 2012
The European Space Agency is organising the first 'Sentinel-2 Preparatory Symposium', which will be hosted in ESA-ESRIN, Frascati, Italy, from 23 to 27 April 2012.
The Symposium is open to ESA Principal Investigators, co-investigators, Sentinel-2 users, scientists, students, representatives from national, European and international space agencies and value adding industries.
18 - 22 June 2012
The European Space Agency and the Norwegian Space Centre are jointly organising the fourth SAR oceanography workshop, SEASAR 2012, entitled "Advances in SAR Oceanography", which is to be hosted in Tromso, Norway, from 18 to 22 June 2012.
The workshop is open to scientists and students in the field of SAR oceanography including ESA Principle Investigators and co-investigators, to users of data from future SAR missions like Sentinel-1 and Radarsat Constellation Mission (RCM) and to representatives from national, European and international space agencies and value adding industry.
30 July - 10 August 2012
The European Space Agency (ESA) organizes a series of summer schools on Monitoring of the Earth System to promote the exploitation of Earth Observation EO data across disciplines, with a specific focus on their assimilation into Earth System models.
The two-week course, held in ESA/ESRIN (near Rome, Italy) during August (typically every two years) aims to provide students with an integrated end-to-end perspective going from measurement techniques to end-user applications.
The school is open to young researchers (Ph.D. students, young post-doctoral scientists) who are specialised in a variety of Earth Science disciplines and wish to expand and improve their knowledge and skills.
Deadline for applications: 29 February 2012
24 - 29 September 2012
To mark the 20 year anniversary of the launch of ERS-1 and TOPEX/POSEIDON, ESA, in collaboration with the French Space Agency, CNES, organised a Symposium in Venice, Italy. This event was sponsored by other partner agencies and organisations supporting the development of altimetry.
