In addition to the complete RapidEye archive available since 2012, RapidEye's new acquisitions are now available to the scientific user community from ESA member states (incl. Canada), in the European Commission Member States and in Africa through project proposal submission via the RapidEye information area on ESA's Earth Online Portal.

Water from melting glaciers and ice sheets, along with thermal expansion of ocean water due to rising temperatures, are causing global sea-level rise. Scientists are exploiting satellite data to understand better just how much each component contributes to this devastating consequence of climate change.
Earth Watching Activities
These images, spanning almost 30 years, were acquired by the Landsat 5 and 8 satellites and show the city of Tangier and the Gibraltar Strait.
Earth Observation Events
27 April - 02 May 2014
The EGU General Assembly 2014 will be held at the ACV centre in Vienna, Austria, from 27 April to 02 May 2014. The event will bring together geoscientists from all over the world to one meeting covering all disciplines of the Earth, Planetary and Space Sciences. Especially for young scientists, it is the aim of the EGU to provide a forum where they can present their work and discuss their ideas with experts in all fields of geosciences. See in particular the session dedicated to SMOS.
12 - 13 May 2014
The Greek Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the European Space Agency, and the European Commission are jointly organising this conference that will be held at the EVGENIDIS Foundation in Athens, Greece, from 12 to 13 May 2014, ushering in a new era for the most important Earth Observation Programme to date.
The conference will focus on how geospatial information and services empower public administrations and business to improve public services, to better their relations with the citizens and customers respectively, and to take better informed decisions on future territorial development, with socio-economic and environmental considerations in mind.
20 - 22 May 2014
The European Space Agency, in the context of the Scientific Exploitation of Operational Missions (SEOM) element, is organising an event dedicated to prepare for scientific exploitation of the Sentinel-2 mission, entitled "Sentinel-2 for Science Workshop", which will be hosted in ESA-ESRIN, Frascati, Italy, from 20 to 22 May 2014.
The workshop is open to ESA Principal Investigators, co-investigators, Sentinel-2 users, scientists, students, representatives from national, European and international space agencies and value adding industries.
20 July - 01 August 2014
The Joint COSPAR and WMO Capacity Building Workshop on "Satellite remote sensing, water cycle and climate change" will be held from 20 July to 1 August 2014, at the Tver State University (TSU) in the city of Tver, Russia. There is a framework agreement between the Committee on Space Research (COSPAR) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) to organise capacity building events of mutual interest. The present Capacity Building Workshop (CBW) aims at holding a cooperative training course on satellite remote sensing and climate change by combining two training events for students and young scientists jointly organised by COSPAR and WMO. This event will take place two weeks before the 40th COSPAR Scientific Assembly to be held in Moscow from 2 to 10 August 2014.
Application submission deadline: 15 April 2014
02 - 10 August 2014
The 40th COSPAR Scientific Assembly will be held in Moscow, Russia from 02 to 10 August 2014 and is organised by Lomonsov Moscow State University.
The Assembly features a broad range of topics and aims to promote research in subjects including Earth observation, planetology, astrophysics, astronomy, space science, space biology and medicine. A number of panels on related subjects, including training courses and special events, will also take place during the Assembly.
Approximately 2500 scientists and engineers from across the world will present the latest results in 119 symposia.
Extended early registration deadline: 31 May 2014
04 - 14 August 2014
The European Space Agency (ESA) organises a series of summer schools on Monitoring of the Earth System to promote the exploitation of Earth Observation (EO) data across disciplines, with a specific focus on their assimilation into Earth System models.
The next two-week course will be held at ESA/ESRIN (Frascati, Italy) from 04 to 14 August 2014. It aims to provide students with an integrated end-to-end perspective going from measurement techniques to end-user applications.
Application submission deadline: 01 April 2014
08 - 12 September 2014
As part of the Scientific Exploitation of Operational Missions (SEOM) programme element, the European Space Agency (ESA) organises each year an advanced Land Training Course devoted to train the next generation of Earth Observation (EO) scientists to exploit data from ESA and operational EO Missions for science and applications development.
17 - 19 September 2014
The EarthCare Science Workshop will be held in Tokyo, Japan, from 17 to 19 September 2014. The workshop is organised by JAXA in cooperation with ESA. The quantitative representation of clouds, precipitation, aerosol and their radiative properties remains one of the main challenges for climate and weather prediction models. In response to this need, ESA has selected the Earth Cloud Aerosol and Radiation Explorer (EarthCARE) satellite mission for implementation as the third Earth Explorer Core Mission in cooperation with the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).
