Since the occurrence of the sudden Envisat anomaly on 8 April, ESA engineers have been trying to re-establish contact with the satellite. So far those attempts have been unsuccessful.
Some useful information has been retrieved thanks to the support of various means (e.g. on ground radar images, Laser Retro-Reflector observations from laser tracking stations, French Pleiades satellite images). Such information shows that the satellite is on its nominal orbit, in one piece, however in an unexpected orientation.

Earth Observation Events
23 - 27 April 2012
The European Space Agency is organising the first 'Sentinel-2 Preparatory Symposium', which will be hosted in ESA-ESRIN, Frascati, Italy, from 23 to 27 April 2012.
The Symposium is open to ESA Principal Investigators, co-investigators, Sentinel-2 users, scientists, students, representatives from national, European and international space agencies and value adding industries.
ESA is organising the International Forum on Satellite Observation for Geo-Hazard Risk Management which will be held on 21 - 23 May 2012 at the Santorini Convention Centre in Greece.
In association with the Group on Earth Observations (GEO), the forum will give the opportunity for International experts to meet and discuss how space technology can help us prepare for and respond to natural disasters.
This forum is open to geo-science users and experts working within the field of geo-hazard risk assessment and management, including representatives from space agencies and other value-adding industries. The forum is also open to Earth Observation mission owners/operators and users such as risk management authorities and, land planning and risk prevention service providers and infrastructure managers.
Poster Submission deadline: 27 April 2012
27 - 28 June 2012
The aim of this first GlobTemperature User Consultation Meeting which will take place in Edinburgh, Scotland, is to survey users' requirements for satellite land surface temperature information.
The other objective of this meeting is to explore the feasibility of meeting them with available data and techniques, and set a list of priority requirements to be addressed by a potential future GlobTemperature project.
24 - 29 September 2012
To mark the 20 year anniversary of the launch of ERS-1 and TOPEX/POSEIDON, ESA, in collaboration with the French Space Agency, CNES, organised a Symposium in Venice, Italy. This event was sponsored by other partner agencies and organisations supporting the development of altimetry.
15 - 19 October 2012
The European Space Agency, together with Eumetsat, is organising the 3rd MERIS/(A)ATSR and OCLI-SLSTR (Sentinel-3) Preparatory Workshop, which will be hosted in ESA-ESRIN, Frascati, Italy, from 15 to 19 October 2012.
24 - 26 October 2012
The Eighth Conference on Image Information Mining will be held at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) Oberpfaffenhofen, Munich, Germany in October 2012. The event is sponsored by European Image Information Mining Coordination Group (IIMCG) and the Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS). This year's conference focuses on Knowledge Discovery from Earth Observation Data. The main topics to be discussed during the conference are: image information mining, image semantic automatic annotation, multi modal and multi-sensor information extraction. The event is aimed at European Space agencies and organisations, aerospace industry and research centres.
