Drought in Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia and Djibouti is pushing tens of thousands of people from their homes as millions face food insecurity in a crisis visible from space. ESA's SMOS satellite shows that the region's soil is too dry to grow crops.

Fringe 2011 Workshop - Advances in the Science and Applications of SAR Interferometry

The European Space Agency is organising Fringe 2011, its 8th International Workshop on "Advances in the Science and Applications of SAR Interferometry", which will be hosted in ESA-ESRIN, Frascati, Italy, between 19 - 23 September 2011. The series of workshops started in 1992 and are currently organised by ESA every two years.

5th Coastal Altimetry Workshop

The international community of scientists working on development and applications of altimetry in the coastal zone are meeting in San Diego, USA, between the 16-18 October 2011.

The aim of these workshops is to bring together people dealing with satellite altimetry applied to the Coastal Zone to discuss a range of topics, from data processing through emerging applications to new technologies.

Training Course in Radar Interferometry in Peru

24 October 2011 - 28 October 2011

An advanced training course in radar interferometry is organised by the Peruvian Space Agency (CONIDA), the European Space Agency (ESA) and the National University of Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM), in collaboration with the Technical University of Delft. The course will be held in Lima, Peru. Participation is free, but costs for transport, accommodation, food, etc need to be met by the participants. The course will be held partly in English and partly in Spanish.

GRSG AGM and OGEO Workshop 2011

'Advances in geological remote sensing' is this year's theme for the Geological Remote Sensing Group (GRSG) AGM. The event to be held in Frascati, Italy, also includes the second OGEO workshop aimed at bridging the oil and gas sector with the EO Service community. The GRSG will address applied and fundamental research that explores the application of remote sensing in mapping, monitoring and understanding the relationship between geology and the environment.
