The conference will focus on how geospatial information and services empower public administrations and business to improve public services, to better their relations with the citizens and customers respectively, and to take better informed decisions on future territorial development, with socio-economic and environmental considerations in mind.
20 - 22 May 2014
The European Space Agency, in the context of the Scientific Exploitation of Operational Missions (SEOM) element, is organising an event dedicated to prepare for scientific exploitation of the Sentinel-2 mission, entitled "Sentinel-2 for Science Workshop", which will be hosted in ESA-ESRIN, Frascati, Italy, from 20 to 22 May 2014.
The workshop is open to ESA Principal Investigators, co-investigators, Sentinel-2 users, scientists, students, representatives from national, European and international space agencies and value adding industries.
02 - 10 August 2014
The 40th COSPAR Scientific Assembly will be held in Moscow, Russia from 02 to 10 August 2014 and is organised by Lomonsov Moscow State University.
The Assembly features a broad range of topics and aims to promote research in subjects including Earth observation, planetology, astrophysics, astronomy, space science, space biology and medicine. A number of panels on related subjects, including training courses and special events, will also take place during the Assembly.
Approximately 2500 scientists and engineers from across the world will present the latest results in 119 symposia.
Extended early registration deadline: 31 May 2014
08 - 12 September 2014
As part of the Scientific Exploitation of Operational Missions (SEOM) programme element, the European Space Agency (ESA) organises each year an advanced Land Training Course devoted to train the next generation of Earth Observation (EO) scientists to exploit data from ESA and operational EO Missions for science and applications development.
17 - 19 September 2014
The EarthCare Science Workshop will be held in Tokyo, Japan, from 17 to 19 September 2014. The workshop is organised by JAXA in cooperation with ESA. The quantitative representation of clouds, precipitation, aerosol and their radiative properties remains one of the main challenges for climate and weather prediction models. In response to this need, ESA has selected the Earth Cloud Aerosol and Radiation Explorer (EarthCARE) satellite mission for implementation as the third Earth Explorer Core Mission in cooperation with the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).
23 - 24 October 2014
The Coastal Altimetry Community, that is the international community of scientists working on development and applications of altimetry in the coastal zone, will convene for the 8th Coastal Altimetry Workshop at the university city of Konstanz, on the German shore of Lake Constance, from 23 to 24 October 2014.
This Workshop aims at being once again a lively forum for a community-led review of the science and applications of coastal altimetry, from data processing through emerging applications to new technologies.
The workshop will be held just before the SARAL/AltiKa Workshop and the Ocean Surface Topography Science Team (OSTST) meeting, both also taking place in Konstanz on the following week, so that delegates can conveniently attend all these related events.
A SAR Altimetry Training Course will also be organised from 21 to 22 October 2014.
28 - 31 October 2014
The Earth Observation for Ocean-Atmosphere Interactions Science 2014, will be held in ESA-ESRIN, Frascati, Italy, from 28 to 31 October 2014.
This joint ESA-SOLAS-EGU conference aims at bringing together the EO and SOLAS communities, as well as scientific institutions and space agencies involved in the observation, characterisation and forecasting of ocean-atmosphere interactions and their impacts.
12 - 14 November 2014
The 2014 Conference on Big Data from Space (BiDS '14) took place from 12 to 14 November 2014 at ESA/ESRIN, Frascati, Italy.
This conference, jointly organised by ESA, SatCen, and JRC, aimed to bring together researchers, engineers, and users in the area of Big Data in the Space sector. The focus is on the whole data lifecycle, ranging from data acquisition by spaceborne and ground-based sensors to data management, analysis and exploitation in the domains of Earth Observation, Space Science, Space Engineering, Space Weather, etc. Special emphasis is placed on highlighting synergies and cross-fertilisation opportunities from domains like Climate Change, Solid Earth Science, Planetary Sciences, Life Science, Astrophysics, High Energy Physics, Social Sciences, etc.
The conference aims to contribute towards a common "Big Data from Space" scientific and programmatic framework; widen competences and expertise of universities, labs and industrial actors; foster networking of experts and users towards better access and sharing of data, tools and resources; leverage innovation, spin-in, spin off of technologies, and business development arising from research and industry progress.
