GOCE reached its gravity field mapping altitude

After decaying slowly from its initial orbit altitude of about 280 km at a rate of about 1 km/week, GOCE has now reached its gravity field mapping altitude of 254.9 km.

Minimize Envisat

New versions of the MERIS and AATSR operational processors

17 September 2009

Starting on 21 September 2009, progressively at all centres across the Envisat ground segment, a new version of the MERIS (FR and RR) and AATSR processor [05.05L05 and 06.02L02 respectively] will be used to generate Near-Real Time (NRT) and off-line products.

Barents Sea, northern Europe

This Envisat image captures a plankton bloom larger than the country of Greece stretching across the Barents Sea off the tip of northern Europe. It was acquired by the MERIS instrument on 19 August 2009 by while working in Full Resolution mode to provide a spatial resolution of 300 m.

SEASAR 2010 Workshop

The European Space Agency is organising its third SAR oceanography workshop, SEASAR 2010, entitled "Advances in SAR Oceanography from ENVISAT, ERS and ESA third party missions", which will be hosted at ESA ESRIN in Frascati, Italy, from 25 to 29 January 2010.
Deadline for registration is 16 December 2009.

Space and the Arctic
