Proba-V: Improved data compatibility with the Spot Vegetation instrument

09 October 2014

A major reprocessing of the Proba-V data products has been finalised.

The changes with respect to the previous product version comprise the following:

  • The viewing zenith angle limit of 40 degrees has been removed
  • The screening for a bad radiometric quality of SWIR observations has been switched off
  • The time grid information is now expressed in minutes from the start of the synthesis period rather than days

2014 Conference on Big Data from Space (BiDS '14) - Research, Technology and Innovation (RT&I)

12 - 14 November 2014

The 2014 Conference on Big Data from Space (BiDS '14) took place from 12 to 14 November 2014 at ESA/ESRIN, Frascati, Italy.

This conference, jointly organised by ESA, SatCen, and JRC, aimed to bring together researchers, engineers, and users in the area of Big Data in the Space sector. The focus is on the whole data lifecycle, ranging from data acquisition by spaceborne and ground-based sensors to data management, analysis and exploitation in the domains of Earth Observation, Space Science, Space Engineering, Space Weather, etc. Special emphasis is placed on highlighting synergies and cross-fertilisation opportunities from domains like Climate Change, Solid Earth Science, Planetary Sciences, Life Science, Astrophysics, High Energy Physics, Social Sciences, etc.

The conference aims to contribute towards a common "Big Data from Space" scientific and programmatic framework; widen competences and expertise of universities, labs and industrial actors; foster networking of experts and users towards better access and sharing of data, tools and resources; leverage innovation, spin-in, spin off of technologies, and business development arising from research and industry progress.

Proceedings from the conference are available in a free EU publication.

2nd SMOS Science Conference

25 - 29 May 2015

The 2nd SMOS Science Conference is jointly organised by ESA, CNES and SMOS-MODE and will take place at ESA-ESAC, near Madrid (Spain) from 25 to 29 May 2015.

The focus of this conference will deviate from previous events in that the emphasis will be on applications of SMOS data, including operational services, the development of novel data products, the synergistic use of SMOS data with other data sources and the potential of SMOS data for the generation of long-term data sets. The workshop will also cover common themes such as the quality of the Level 1 data products and calibration and validation activities.

The 2nd SMOS Science Conference will be preceded by a SMOS Training Course from 18 to 22 May 2015, organised by CESBIO and held as well at the ESA-ESAC premises near Madrid.
