The Sun bathes our planet in the light and heat it needs to sustain life, but it also bombards us with dangerous charged particles in solar wind. Our magnetic field largely shields from this onslaught, but like many a relationship, it's somewhat complicated. Thanks to ESA's Swarm mission the nature of this Earth–Sun coupling has been revealed in more detail than ever before.

We inform users that the 2 Hz TII Cross-Track data flow dataset has been extended. The data now covers 01 December 2015 to 29 April 2017 for the A and B satellites.
We inform the Swarm users that starting from 02 October 2017, both EFI Langmuir Probes (LPs) on Swarm C are systematically set to high gain during EFI TII inactive periods.

The Copernicus Research and User Support (RUS) team would like announce an upcoming webinar on Ocean Colour Monitoring with Sentinel-3.
Please register now to the live webinar which is taking place on Wednesday 21 February 2018 from 14.30 to 16:00 CET.
Adam's Bridge is featured in this Landsat image comparison. Once a land bridge connecting India and Sri Lanka, it was destroyed by a cyclone, only to re-emerge as a series of islands centuries later. These Landsat 5 and 8 images show how the former bridge has changed since 2006.
Earth Observation Events
27 - 28 March 2018
The European Space Agency is organising the 2nd Mapping Water Bodies from Space Conference. This conference will be held at ESA-ESRIN in Frascati, Italy, on 27 and 28 March 2018.
The purpose of this conference is to provide scientists and data users with the opportunity to present first-hand and up-to-date results from their on-going research and application development activities by using data from past and current satellites.
The conference is open to ESA Principal Investigators and Co-investigators, Sentinel users, Scientists, Students, Representatives from national, European and international space agencies, research labs and value adding industries.
08 - 13 April 2018
The General Assembly 2018 of the European Geosciences Union (EGU 2018) will be held at the Austria Center Vienna (ACV) in Vienna, Austria, from 8 to 13 April 2018. The assembly will bring together geoscientists from all over the world to one meeting covering all disciplines of the Earth, planetary and space sciences, and is open to scientists of all nations.
The EGU aims to provide a forum where scientists, especially early career researchers, can present their work and discuss their ideas with experts in all fields of geoscience.
07 - 10 May 2018
The European Space Agency is organising the fifth Advances in SAR Oceanography workshop, SeaSAR 2018, which will be hosted in ESA-ESRIN from 07 to 10 May 2018.
The workshop is part of the #EOScience4Society – Scientific Exploitation Programme element aimed at exploiting data from ESA and operational EO Missions (e.g. Copernicus Sentinels) for science and application development.
The workshop is open to ESA Principal Investigators, co-investigators, Sentinel-1 users, scientists, students, representatives from national, European and international space agencies and value adding industries.
29 - 31 May 2018
The European Space Agency (ESA) in cooperation with the Belgian Science Policy Office (BELSPO) have organised the second Proba-V Symposium, which will take place in Ostend, Belgium, from 29 to 31 May 2018.
The symposium will promote the scientific and operational exploitation of Proba-V data and is open to Proba-V users, scientists, students, representatives from national, European and international agencies, operational end-users and value adding industries.
11 - 15 June 2018
The international science community is invited to participate in the EarthCARE Science and Validation Workshop, which is jointly organised by the German Aerospace Center (DLR), the German EarthCARE Project Office at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology (MPI-M) and the European Space Agency (ESA), in cooperation with our partners, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and the National Institute of Information and Communication Technology (NICT).
The workshop - which will take place in Bonn, Germany, from 11 to 15 June 2018 - will provide the forum for the discussion of the preparation of the EarthCARE mission exploitation and its product validation.
It combines the Seventh International EarthCARE Science Workshop and the First ESA EarthCARE Validation Workshop, following ESA's Announcement of Opportunity for submitting proposals for the calibration and validation of EarthCARE, to organise the activities of the Principal Investigators. The workshops will be arranged side-by-side in respective morning and evening sessions during the week.
24 - 29 September 2018
Following on from the 15 Years and 20 Years of Progress in Radar Altimetry Symposia in 2006 and 2012, both deemed very successful landmarks by the participants and the readership of the Proceedings, we have now reached the 25-year anniversary of the first supply of ERS-1 and TOPEX/Poseidon data products to the Altimetry Community.
To mark the occasion, the European Space Agency (ESA) in collaboration with the French Space Agency (CNES) is organising an exceptional Symposium on "25 years of Progress in Radar Altimetry". The event will take place in Ponta Delgada, São Miguel Island, Azores Archipelago (Portugal) from 24 to 29 September 2018, and will be sponsored by other partner agencies and organisations supporting the development of altimetry.
Along with the symposium, related events will take place in the same week which includes the annual meeting of the Ocean Surface Topography Science Team (OSTST) and the International DORIS Service (IDS) Workshop.
