11 November 2013
Close to 01:00 CET on Monday 11 November, ESA's GOCE satellite reentered Earth's atmosphere on a descending orbit pass that extended across Siberia, the western Pacific Ocean, the eastern Indian Ocean and Antarctica. As expected, the satellite disintegrated in the high atmosphere and no damage to property has been reported.

The re-processing campaign of ERS-2 Scatterometer consolidated Level 2.0 products is proceeding, adopting the latest Advanced Scatterometer Processing System 2.0 (ASPS). Data from Cycle 22 to Cycle 162 (19 May 1997 - 22 October 2010) is now available to the user community.

An intermittent error in the REAPER ERS precise orbit files (POD) in Envisat PDS format was detected for both satellites (ERS-1 and ERS-2), and the entire datasets have, for this reason, been reprocessed.
Image of the Week
This ALOS image was captured over the Sakha Republic in eastern Russia.
Sakha is covered by permafrost, where the soil is at or below freezing throughout the year. Because of this, roads are made of clay instead of asphalt to avoid cracking with the thawing and freezing. During heavy summer rains, these roads often turn to mud, making road travel difficult.
Earth Observation Events
26 - 29 November 2013
In preparation for the Sentinel-3A satellite launch at the end of 2014, a Validation Team has been convened by ESA and EUMETSAT to assist in the scientific validation of mission products and services. The Sentinel-3 Validation Team (S3VT) 1st Meeting will take place at ESRIN, Frascati, Italy, from 26 to 29 November 2013. The aim of the S3VT meeting is to consolidate and document S3VT activities prior to launch to facilitate Phase E1 and Phase E2 cal/val planning.
09 - 13 December 2013
The American Geophysical Union's 46th annual Fall Meeting will be held in San Francisco, California from 09 to 13 December 2013.
The meeting is the largest worldwide conference in the geophysical sciences, attracting more than 22,000 Earth and space scientists, educators, students, and other leaders gathering to present ground-breaking research and connect with colleagues.
20 - 22 May 2014
The European Space Agency, in the context of the Scientific Exploitation of Operational Missions (SEOM) element, is organising an event dedicated to prepare for scientific exploitation of the Sentinel-2 mission, entitled "Sentinel-2 for Science Workshop", which will be hosted in ESA-ESRIN, Frascati, Italy, from 20 to 22 May 2014.
The workshop is open to ESA Principal Investigators, co-investigators, Sentinel-2 users, scientists, students, representatives from national, European and international space agencies and value adding industries.
