An area covering northern Namibia and southern Angola is pictured in this Kompsat-2 image from 3 January.
Running across the image, the Okavango River forms the border between Namibia to the south and Angola to the north.
Earth Observation Events
05 - 07 June 2013
The European Space Agency in Frascati is organising a 'Big data from Space' event on 5-7 June 2013 to address the barriers that hamper an effective use of large volumes of Earth observation data.
The event will focus on issues associated with the organisation and delivery of large volumes of contemporary and historical Earth observations, either space-based or from ground (including ubiquitous information-sensing mobile devices, aerial sensory technologies and wireless sensor networks).
Registration deadline: 27 May 2013
04 - 05 July 2013
The Probing Vegetation Conference will be held in Antwerp, Belgium, from 4 to 5 July 2013.
After a long and successful career as Europe’s first truly operational system for global monitoring of vegetation, the SPOT-VEGETATION mission is now nearing the end of its life cycle, but the role of SPOT-VEGETATION will be taken over by ESA's technologically advanced Proba-V mission.
The conference will focus on the operational and scientific achievements of SPOT-VEGETATION and the perspectives that will be offered to the user’s community by Proba-V.
Registration deadline: 20 May 2013
09 - 13 September 2013
The 2013 European Space Agency Living Planet Symposium follows the previous successful symposia held in Bergen (2010), Montreux (2007) and Salzburg (2004). The event will be held in Edinburgh, United Kingdom from 09 to 13 September 2013 and is organised with the support of the UK Space Agency.
The aim of the Symposium is to present the results of ESA EO missions exploitation by providing a forum for investigators to report and discuss results of on-going science activities.
23 - 27 September 2013
The 3rd ESA Advanced Training on Ocean Remote Sensing course will be held in Cork, Ireland, at the National Maritime College of Ireland from 23 to 27 September 2013.
As part of the Scientific Exploitation of Operational Missions (SEOM) programme element, the European Space Agency (ESA) is organising a series of advanced thematic training courses devoted to train the next generation of Earth Observation (EO) scientists to use data from ESA and operational EO Missions for science and applications development.
30 September - 04 October 2013
The first Microwave Ocean Remote Sensing Training School organised by the SMOS-MODE EU COST Action will take place in Barcelona, Spain, from 30 September to 04 October 2013.
Through a combination of theoretical lectures and hands-on laboratory sessions the school will cover all key aspects of large-scale ocean monitoring, with a particular focus on SMOS data processing and applications. The number of participants is limited to 25 and applicants will be selected on a competitive basis.
Registration deadline: 28 June 2013
15 - 17 October 2013
The 9th International Workshop of the EARSeL Special Interest Group (SIG) on Forest Fires will take place in Coombe Abbey, Warwickshire, UK, from 15 to 17 October 2013.
The workshop is organised by the University of Leicester with support from the Laboratory of Forest Management and Remote Sensing, Faculty of Forestry and Natural Environment, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
The Leicester hosted workshop is the latest in a series of technical meetings organised by the EARSeL SIG on Forest Fires after its foundation in 1995. Previous meetings held resulted in outstanding progress made in forest fire research.
Abstract submission deadline: 15 April 2013
28 - 31 October 2013
The Advanced Concepts for Intelligent Vision Systems Conference (Acivs 2013) will be held in Poznan, Poland from 28 to 31 October 2013.
The conference will focus on techniques for building adaptive, intelligent, safe and secure imaging systems. Both classical research papers and application papers are welcome.
Early registration deadline: 13 September 2013
04 - 08 November 2013
This workshop will be held in Bangkok, Thailand, from 4 to 8 November 2013, the week before the First COSPAR Symposium.
The workshop is open to undergraduate students, young researchers and professionals (under 35) who are studying or working in a variety of Earth Science disciplines and wish to expand and improve their knowledge and skills. The course includes lectures and topic based discussions related to remote sensing concepts and principles. Participation is limited to a maximum of 25 students.
Application form submission deadline: 31 May 2013
11 - 15 November 2013
The First COSPAR Symposium 2013 will be held in Bangkok, Thailand, from 11 to 15 November 2013.
This symposium is the first of a new series which aims at promoting space and astronomical research at regional level.
The Symposium features plenary lectures, parallel, poster and training sessions. The sessions will be multi-disciplinary, ranging in a wide variety of topics from astronomy, Earth observation, planetology and astrobiology.
The Symposium is open to scientists, young professionals and students world-wide.
