ESA will shortly introduce an important change for users in the way to obtain Envisat and ERS (A)SAR data. Evolving from the traditional on-demand PAC production to the new On-The-Fly data processing will imply significant improvement for users being able to trigger (A)SAR processing and download directly from the ESA archive via the new (A)SAR data On-The-Fly (OTF) service.

The unprecedented frequency of Sentinel observations capture rapid changes in agricultural production from national to field scale, serving as a major support for environmental monitoring and agricultural subsidy control.

For a low-lying, densely populated country like the Netherlands, monitoring subsidence is critical. Until recently, tiny displacements in the ground beneath our feet couldn't be mapped nationally but, thanks to the Sentinel-1 mission, this is now possible.
30 May 2016
The 36th Symposium of the European Association of Remote Sensing Laboratories (EARSeL) will take place from 20 to 24 June 2016 at the Gustav-Stresemann-Institut (GSI) in Bonn, Germany.
03 June 2016
On behalf of the Scientific Organising Committee of the CLIVAR Open Science Conference "Charting the course for climate and ocean research" all interested ocean and climate researchers are encouraged to attend the conference and to register before the Early Bird deadline of 15 June 2016.
10 June 2016
A maintenance has been scheduled at ESA / ESRIN on Monday 13 June 2016, from 18:00 to 23:59 CEST.
The planned maintenance activities are expected to have a widespread impact on all EO systems, intra-site communications and Internet access.

Earth Observation Events
20 - 24 June 2016
The 36th EARSeL Symposium will be held in Bonn, Germany, from 20 to 24 June 2016.
EARSeL is a scientific network of European remote sensing laboratories, coming from both academia and the commercial/industrial sector, which covers all fields of geoinformation and earth observation through remote sensing.
All scientists, professionals and researchers involved or interested in the field of the symposium are strongly encouraged to present papers according on a wide range of application areas.
Symposium registration is now open through the symposium Conference Tool.
06 - 08 September 2016
The European Space Agency, in the context of the Scientific Exploitation of Operational Missions (SEOM) programme element, and PML are organising a workshop, called Colour and Light in the Ocean from Earth Observation: Relevance and Applications; Products from Space and Perspectives from Models hosted at ESA-ESRIN, Frascati, Italy from 6 to 8 September 2016.
12 - 16 September 2016
The European Space Agency (ESA) is organising the second Earth Observation Open Science community consultation at ESRIN (Frascati, Italy) from 12 to 14 September 2016 to explore the new challenges and opportunities for EO research created by the rapid advances in digital technologies.
These include open tools and software, data-intensive science, virtual research environment, citizen science, advanced visualization, and e-education of the new generation of Data scientists.
12 - 16 September 2016
As part of the Scientific Exploitation of Operational Missions (SEOM) programme element, the European Space Agency (ESA) is organising a new advanced Cryosphere Training Course devoted to train the next generation of Earth Observation (EO) scientists to exploit data from ESA and operational EO Missions (e.g. the Sentinels) for science and applications development.
21 - 22 September 2016
The 3rd Satellite Soil Moisture Validation and Application workshop will be held in New York City, USA, from 21 to 22 September 2016 (the exact location has yet to be decided).
The objective of this workshop series is to discuss and reconcile methodological advances in the validation and application of global satellite soil moisture data.
The workshop is unique in that it brings together satellite soil moisture users and developers to focus on both the derivation and exploration of soil moisture data from both passive and active microwave satellite missions (SMAP, SMOS, ASCAT, AMSR-2, Sentinel-1, and other legacy missions).
Please note that this workshop will follow a SMAP Cal/Val Workshop on 19 and 20 September 2016 that will be held in Manhattan and is open to all that are interested in SMAP.
18 - 25 September 2016
The CLIVAR Open Science Conference will be held in Qingdao, China, from 18 to 25 September 2016.
The objectives of the CLIVAR Open Science Conference are to:
In addition to the main event, an Early Career Scientists Symposium will take place on the weekends before and after the main Conference.
15 - 17 November 2016
A three day workshop on the science and applications of remotely-sensed ocean surface winds, with a focus on high or extreme wind speeds. The workshop will be held at the Met Office headquarters in the cathedral city of Exeter, United Kingdom, from 15 to 17 November 2016.
Topics will include:
