The only SMOS Auxiliary Data File which is openly available to all users is the L2 ECMWF SMOS Auxiliary Data Product. This product contains ECMWF data on the ISEA 4-9 DGG corresponding to SMOS half-orbit. It is used by both the ocean salinity and soil moisture operational processors to store the geophysical parameters coming from the ECMWF forecasts.

The Level 1 Auxiliary data files include Discrete Global Grid (DGG), land-sea mask, flat target transformation measurements, known RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) sources, etc.

The Level 2 Soil Moisture Auxiliary data files (both static or dynamically updated) contain information needed for generating soil moisture products, such as ECOCLIMAP surface cover information, vegetation optical thickness, etc.

The Level 2 Ocean Salinity Auxiliary data files (both static or dynamically updated) contain information needed for generating sea surface salinity products, such as ocean target transformation lookup tables, sea roughness model information, long-term salinity climatologies, etc.

Detailed information on the SMOS products is available.

Minimize ESA Earth Observation Campaigns Data

ESA has been involved in many Earth Observation campaigns over the past 25 years, from ground-based surveys, to ships at sea, aircraft and balloons in the atmosphere and the orbiting satellites in space.

To learn more about these campaigns and available datasets from them, please see the Campaigns page.
