EarthCARE Cal/Val AO - Deadline extension

ESA recently released an Announcement of Opportunity (AO) Call for the External Calibration and Validation of the EarthCARE products.

This is to inform all interested users that, following the request of prospective Principal Investigators, the deadline for submitting proposals has been extended to 31 October 2017.

The EarthCARE satellite is developed by ESA, in collaboration with JAXA, in the framework of its Earth Explorer Missions. Scheduled for launch in 2019, EarthCARE will contribute to climate research providing global observations of clouds, aerosols and radiation. The mission has a planned lifetime in orbit of three years.

After being put through its paces to make sure it is fit for life in orbit around Earth, the Copernicus Sentinel-3B satellite is ready to be packed up and shipped to Russia for liftoff.

Its twin, Sentinel-3A, has been in orbit since February 2016, systematically measuring our oceans, land, ice and atmosphere. The information feeds a range of practical applications and is used for monitoring and understanding large-scale global dynamics.
