The data set contains daily estimations of SMOS retrieved sea-ice thickness and its uncertainty, at the edge of the Arctic Ocean during the period October-April and for Antarctica over the period April-October.

The sea-ice thickness is retrieved up to a depth of ~ 0.5-1 m, depending on the ice temperature and salinity, with a spatial grid of 12.5 km.

Maps (polar stereographic grids) are derived from the SMOS L1C product and are produced by the Integrated Climate Data Center (ICDC) at the University of Hamburg, in NetCDF format and with a latency of about 24 hours.

This product is complementary with sea-ice thickness measurements from ESA's CryoSat-2 and Sentinel-3 Missions.

Spatial coverage: Northern Hemisphere (50 to 90 N).
