This false-colour image from Japan's ALOS satellite was acquired on 20 March 2009 over part of southern Kenya and the border with Tanzania. Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania can be seen in the lower-left corner. At 5895 m above sea level, this dormant volcano is Africa's highest mountain.

Clear skies over the Iberian Peninsula

Rarely do weather patterns and satellite overpass schedules align to provide cloud-free views of Western Europe in the spring. However, a high-pressure pattern kept skies spectacularly clear over the Iberian Peninsula and east into France and Germany as the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA's Terra satellite passed over on 08 March 2014.
