Polly is a postdoctoral research scientist based in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Reading.

She completed her PhD on joint state and parameter estimation using data assimilation with application to morphodynamic modelling at the University of Reading in 2010. Prior to this, Polly studied for a Masters degree in the Numerical Modelling of the Atmosphere and Oceans, also at Reading, and spent time working for the UK Government Statistical Service.

After finishing her PhD, Polly worked as a postdoctoral scholar at the University of California Santa Cruz on a research project exploring the application of weak constraint 4D-Var data assimilation methods to the California Current system using the Regional Ocean Modelling System (ROMS).

She returned to Reading in 2012 and is now part of the ESA Data Assimilation Projects - Coupled Model Data Assimilation team. This initiative aims to advance data assimilation techniques in fully coupled atmosphere-ocean models. Her current research involves using an idealised 1D coupled atmosphere-ocean model with an incremental 4D-Var assimilation scheme to develop and test different strategies for solving the coupled variational data assimilation problem.
