2.11 Characterisation and Calibration
Some ENVISAT instruments use a set of
characterisation and calibration algorithms that
are run on acquired data outside of the PDS. These are then used to
provide auxiliary files back to the IPFs within the PDS. This
section is intended to describe these
algorithms. However, AATSR is essentially a
self-calibrating instrument, deriving
calibration coefficients for the thermal and
visible channels via its on-board calibration
targets. Therefore, there are no
specific external calibration algorithms involved.
There is, however, a monitoring function related
to the calibration of the visible channels that
is executed outside the processing chain.
