Heritage data trains neural networks to detect urban sprawl
Using data from non-operational ESA remote sensing missions, researchers have trained a network of artificial neurons to recognise how cities change over decades. They hope this will help city planners reduce the impact that urbanisation has on the environment.

This series produced by the Environment and Natural Resources Service of FAQ aims to present the possibilities of remote sensing techniques for natural resource management and planning.
Tools - Visualisation
EVDC Orbit Prediction Tool
The EVDC Orbit Prediction and Overpass Tool generates and visualises satellite's overpasses.
Campaign
BACCHUS-DOC
The BACCHUS-DOC Radar and Optical Campaign was an area mapping project of vineyards near Frascati (Italy). ESA required high resolution geo-referenced airborne SAR data of different wavelength and polarisation (preferably polarimetric).
Instrument - Imaging Spectrometers/Radiometers
Thematic Mapper (TM)
The Thematic Mapper (TM) was a multispectral scanning radiometer on board Landsat-4 and Landsat-5.
Mission - Third Party Missions
Landsat-4 and Landsat-5
The Landsat-4 and Landsat-5 missions continued the Landsat programme's goal of providing moderate-resolution optical remote sensing for land, coastal areas and shallow waters.
Instrument - Spectrometers/Radiometers
Return-Beam Vidicon (RBV)
The Return-Beam Vidicon (RBV) instrument was flown onboard the Landsat-1 to 3 satellites.
Instrument - Imaging Spectrometers/Radiometers
Multi Spectral Scanner (MSS)
The Multi Spectral Scanner (MSS) instrument was carried aboard the Landsat-1 to 5 satellites.
Mission - Third Party Missions
Landsat-1 to Landsat-3
The Landsat-1 to 3 satellites were the first in the United States' Landsat programme, dedicated to monitoring the Earth's land mass.
