Swarm Bravo VFM anomaly from 9 January to 17 January 2022

21 Feb 2022

Due to an anomaly registered on the VFM (Vector Field Magnetometer) on board Swarm Bravo, the scalar residuals (i.e. the difference between the magnitude of the magnetic field measured by the VFM and by the Absolute Scalar Magnetometer) systematically exceeded the 1 nT threshold from 9 January to 17 January 2022, indicating a degraded quality of the VFM measurements.

In order to restore the nominal instrument performances, a power cycle was successfully performed on 17 January 2022.
