PlanetScope and SkySat data now available

12 Aug 2019

The PlanetScope and SkySat missions are Third Party Missions under evaluation.

This will allow any interested user to investigate the suitability of the data for scientific and R&D activities.

Learn more about the available data from these missions:

PlanetScope is a constellation of 120+ satellites named Doves, that are able to provide VHR imagery of the entire landmass of the Earth daily with a huge amount of data at a global scale.

Skysat, composed of 15 satellites, is able to provide a ground resolution of about 72 cm for multispectral bands.

Different product formats are available to serve different use cases:

  • Basic Scene product: Scaled Top of Atmosphere Radiance (at sensor) and sensor-corrected product. Designed for users with advanced image processing and geometric correction capabilities. Not orthorectified or corrected for terrain distortions.
  • Ortho Scene product: represent the single-frame image captured as acquired by the satellite with additional post processing applied
  • Consolidated product (only for SkySat): ortho frames belonging to the same collect are merged into a single deliverable for considerably easier file management

ESA scientific users can request archive or new acquisition data by submitting a project proposal.

A full report on the evaluation shall be delivered to ESA at the end of the study.
