New Landsat-8 Collection-2 Level 1 and Level 2 data now available

Within ESA’s Landsat offering, access to the European coverage of Landsat-8 Collection-2 Level 1 and Level 2 data is now available. Landsat-8 Collection-2 is the result of reprocessing efforts to improve the data quality of the archive and fresh data products with respect to Collection-1. This has primarily been through improvements to the absolute geolocation accuracy, but also including updated digital elevation modelling sources, improved radiometric calibration, and enhanced quality assessment bands, in addition to updated metadata and file formats.

The Landsat-8 Collection-2 is freely available to registered users via the ESA Landsat Online Dissemination service (LOADS and SO-CAT systems and will soon be added to the EO-CAT system). Through this service, users may also access ESA’s full offering of data from the Landsat series, dating back to 1975.

The Online Dissemination service is still being populated, with the current availability of Collection-2 data as follows:

  • 2022: New data added daily
  • 2020 to 2021: Upload in progress, to be completed by end of February 2022
  • 2017 to 2019: Full availability
  • 2013 to 2016: To be uploaded

The full archive of Collection-1 data is currently available on the old Landsat-8 portal and will be retained until the Online Dissemination service is fully populated.
