New CryoSat BUFR products for the meteorological community

11 May 2020

The current CryoSat Ocean Processor is able to generate Near-real-time Ocean Products (NOP) with a latency of 2-3 hours after sensing. The data is very useful for a variety of weather forecasting systems and operational services.

From 11 May, the new NOP data, converted into the BUFR (Binary Universal Form for the Representation of meteorological data) format, will be disseminated by ESA to the Italian MetOffice to populate the World Meteorological Organization (WMO)'s Global Telecommunication System (GTS) network.
