About GOME

The Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment (GOME) instrument was an atmospheric chemistry sensor onboard the second European Remote Sensing satellite (ERS-2, 1995 - 2011).

GOME objectives included the measurement of total column amounts and stratospheric and tropospheric profiles of ozone on a daily basis,  measurement of column amounts of H2O and other gases involved in ozone photochemistry. GOME was also used to investigate the distribution of atmospheric aerosols and clouds-plus-surface spectral reflectance.

Data Description

All GOME products, in accordance with ESA Earth Observation Data Policy, are freely available to registered users via FTP. Read more about the available products and the registration process which is required to access them:

Data Tools

Atmospheric Toolbox

The Atmospheric Toolbox (also known as BEAT - Basic Envisat Atmospheric Toolbox) is a collection of executable tools and an application programming interface (API) which has been developed to facilitate the utilisation, viewing and processing of ESA GOMOS, MIPAS, SCIAMACHY and GOME data.

Processor Releases

Read more about the processor releases for GOME.

GOME Cal/Val

The goal of ERS-2 GOME calibration and validation activities was to verify the accuracy and quality of data the instrument acquired. GOME Cal/Val information is available.

GOME Quality Control Reports

Quality Control is monitoring routinely the status of the spacecraft (payload and platform) and to check if the derived products meet the quality requirements along mission life-time. GOME quality control reports were produced on a daily, monthly and yearly basis, detailing the quality of data acquired by the instrument and the availability of products.
