GlobAEROSOL - A unified, global aerosol dataset from MERIS, (A)ATSR and MSG SEVIRI

Abstract

GlobAEROSOL is an ESA Data User Element project which will produce a 10 year (1995 - 2005), global aerosol data set from the ATSR-2, AATSR, MERIS and MSG SEVIRI instruments. The data set will include aerosol optical depth at 550 and 865 nm, the Angstrom coefficient and some level of aerosol speciation. These products will be available from each instrument individually and as merged data set on a daily (orbit by orbit) basis, and as a monthly average composite.

As well as describing the GlobAEROSOL project this presentation will present some preliminary results, and also cover the Oxford-RAL Aerosol and Clouds (ORAC) retrieval scheme used to derive aerosol products from the (A)ATSR and SEVIRI instruments.
