Abstract
This paper presents the research and application results
obtained by using data from the four sensors onboard the
ERS-1 satellite for the China Seas and Northwest Pacific
Ocean. 1)Altimeter. The works that have been done with this
sensor include: Merger of ERS-1 and TOPEX/Poseidon data;
Development of a tidal correction method for shallow waters;
Investigation of global and regional wind and wave climate.
2)Synthetic Aperture Radar. Four studies have been carried
out: Analysis and validation of ocean wave from ERS-1 AMI
data; New method for deriving ocean wave directional
spectrum; Bispectrum of ocean wave and its application;
Assimilation of ERS-1 multi-sensor data into WAM model.
3)Scatterometer. Data from this sensor in conjunction with
those from DMSP SSM/I are used to determine the CO2 exchange
coefficient; The scatterometer derived wind fields are also
used to validate Typhoon ROBIN. 4)Along-Track Scanning
Radiometer. The following researches are conducted with this
sensor: Investigation of sea surface temperature features in
the China Seas; Observation of surface currents in the Taiwan
Strait.
