Abstract

In the fall of 2006 a two week exercise on ship detection was carried out using a mix of radar and optical imagery from ENVISAT, ERS-2, RadarSat and SPOT satellites. A network of ground stations were employed to capture and process the satellite data in near-real time. Using the ground stations and multiple satellites together it was demonstrated that the progress of vessels could be monitored persistently across the Atlantic.
