The X-band RAMSES multi-pass interferometry campaign

Abstract

Numerous sensor projects are under study or ready to be launched: TerraSAR-X, Radarsat 2, Cosmo-Skymed, SAR-Lupe concerning spatial sensors and EUROMALE or SOSTAR for airborne sensors. These sensors are all at X-Band with different resolutions and incidence angles. Within the context of these new sensors a RAMSES multi-pass interferometric campaign was designed to acquire data for different geometries.

This presentation gives an overview of this multi-date interferometric campaign in X-band acquired with the ONERA RAMSES airborne system which took place from November 2005 to November 2006. Acquisitions have been done over four different test sites in France: Salon de Provence, Fos sur Mer, Puylaurent and Séchilienne with a bandwidth of 264 MHz at three different incidence angles (75, 60 and 40 degrees) to cover different acquisition geometries. The two main thematics of this campaign are the change detection and the interferometric DEM computation for small height ambiguity acquisition mode. There are numerous challenges to achieve thus, specially the multi-date airborne acquisitions aspects with the coregistration accuracy and the perfect control and knowledge of the trajectories, the use of the X-band with the temporal decorrelation and the phase unwrapping for the height ambiguity constraints. We will first present the campaign preparation with the baseline control and new algorithm development, then we will describe the test sites and finally present interferometric results obtained during this campaign for various landscapes.
