How Accurately can we Geolocate a Persistent Scatterer?

Abstract

The geolocation of a point in an interferogram is determined by three basic equations that depend primarily upon its image coordinates, Doppler frequency and interferometric phase. In this paper we show how those equations are established and how they may be used to derive the 3-d location of a target in a geodetic coordinate system. Using a number of interferometric ENVISAT observations of three precisely surveyed corner reflectors placed in the field we compare the location of the points through the interferometric equation and the absolute surveyed coordinates. Through this, a first, coarse, attempt at a geometric error budget for persistant scatterers interferometry method is attempted and the important parameters assessed.
