SAFE SCHEMA SETS

The data architecture of the SAFE Schemas distribution represents the various specializations of the SAFE format into the different missions, sensors, modes.

This architecture is exploited by two sets of SAFE schemas: the SAFE data-types and the SAFE object-types schemas.

SAFE data-types
The schemas that compose this set define all the SAFE types and validate the Manifest Files of the SAFE products. The placement of these schemas within the data architecture has a double implication.

First, each schema is valid only in its location, since the cross schemas reference is relative to the architecture structure.

Second, the placement identifies the association between the schemas and the product types: the manifest of each SAFE product indicates (as the value of the xfdu node's version attribute) the path, within the SAFE data architecture, of the correspondent xfdu schema.

The data-types schemas are not included in the SAFE products.

SAFE object-types
The schemas that compose this set define the structure of the binary data among the different products. These schemas are included in the SAFE products to allow browsing the binary contents, making each SAFE product "self contained".

Their placement in the data architecture has the goal of associating the schemas to the correspondent product types. They are assumed to be placed within the SAFE products at the same nesting level, so their cross referencing is flat and it is, deliberately, inconsistent within the SAFE data architecture.
