Referred to as the ''Pearl of the Black Sea'', Odessa is the fifth largest city and the main trade and fishing port in Ukraine.
Situated between the two estuaries of Dnepr and Dnestr rivers, Odessa's harbour is kept open in winter by ice-breakers.
The city's name has two spellings, the Russian Odessa and the Ukrainian Odesa.
