The image shows the Eastern part of the island,
with, in the middle, Nicosia, the capital.
Its original Greek name is Lefkosia,
from the name of the ''lefki'', a tree that once adorned the city.
Zooming in the image, the old part of Nicosia,
surrounded by sturdy Venetian walls over 400 years old, can be detected.
Small villages are spread throughout this region.
Bottom right is Larnaca facing Lebanon and set in a wide bay.
Interesting sea features along the coast are revealed by the SAR sensor.
