Description:
This Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR)
multitemporal colour composite image focuses on Rome, Italy. The Italian
capital is visible as the large bright area near the centre of the image. The
Campagna di Roma, with its undulating plains and hills, starts along the
coast and extends up to the Alban Hills (center right) and the Sabine Range
hills (top centre).
There are also visible the Lakes of Bracciano
(upper left), Gandolfo and Nemi (centre right) formed within the
craters of extinct volcanoes in the volcanic province of Tuscany and
Lazio.
The Tiber River, the third longest river in Italy, flows
south, meandering through the colourful Tiber valley (upper right). It passes
south through the Eternal City and finally flows into the Tyrrhenian Sea. To the
north of its delta lies the Leonardo da Vinci (Fiumicino) Airport; the
main airport of Rome.
