Flooding in Central Europe - August 2002
Moldava Flooding
ERS-2's SAR instrument
documented the spread of floodwaters from the
Moldava river, a confluent of the Elbe river,
after heavy rains during
August flooded the cities along its banks.
The flooded area of the Moldava or Vltava river to the north of Prague's city
centre is clearly evident in these two images acquired by
ERS-2's SAR instrument: at the left an image acquired on
16 August 2002 (orbit 38281), at right, an image acquired on 2 January 2002
(orbit 35046).
For more information and satellite imagery of the flooded areas,

Earthwatching pages on flooding in Europe.
