ESA's Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) mission is dedicated to gathering data to advance our understanding of Earth's water cycle.

In more than 10 years of operations, SMOS has exceeded its original objectives, and innovative new applications for the data continue to be discovered, including weather forecasting, cryospheric research and even space weather.
