Abstract

A specific pipeline is located in the Southeast of Brazil and it occupies a strip of about 363,9 km. It crosses a total of 24 municipalities between Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais States. So the antropic pressures are great and constitute a dynamic process, where the monitoring is necessary. Therefore, the radar images become an important alternative for obtaining data on this tropical region, where the large amount of clouds difficult or even impossible to record the information. The objective of this project will be to evaluate the contribution of SAR polarimetric images from RADARSAT-2, at different polarizations and with a specific incident angle, to make possible the land use mapping in the study area, where different geomorphological contexts occurs. This study complements a project developed by Sao Paulo State University (UNESP) with the support of PETROBRAS, to test different radar images and to apply different methods of change detection.
