The (A)ATSR Re-analysis for Climate Project

Christopher Merchant(1) and Owen Embury(1)

Abstract

The (A)ATSR Re-analysis for Climate project, (A)RC, aims to deliver a record of sea surface temperature of climate quality (regional biases <0.1 K and stability of observation of 0.05 K per decade or better), for the period of the three (Advanced) Along Track Scanning Radiometer missions. The multi-mission archive in Envisat format is key to delivering this. The science aspects are algorithmic developments in cloud screening and clear-sky SST estimation. Both new methods are physically-based and statistically sound: Bayesian clear-cloud classification and optimal retrieval. Results and progress will be presented.
