Abstract

GMES (Global Monitoring for Environment and Security) is a joint initiative of the European Commission (EC) and the European Space Agency (ESA), designed to establish a European capacity for the provision and use of operational information. The operational character of the Sentinel missions implies the “provision of services in a routine, long-term and continuous fashion, with a consistent quality and a very high level of availability”.

The Sentinel-3 Payload Data Ground Segment (PDGS) is in charge of the Acquisition, Processing, Archiving and Dissemination of the Sentinel-3 payload data (OLCI, SLSTR, SRAL) and interfaces the GSC Coordinated Data Access System (GSCDA) for providing Sentinel-3 products to the GMES Service Projects.
