Real time analysis with the MEDSPIRATION HR-DDS

David Poulter(1)

Abstract

The MEDSPIRATION High Resolution Diagnostic Data Set (HR-DDS) is an online interactive analysis system originally developed by the National Oceanography Centre under the ESA MEDSPIRATION project for the GODAE High Resolution Sea Surface Temperature Pilot Project (GHRSST-PP). It is designed to allow easy real time inter-comparison and analysis of SST data products from satellites, models, in situ observing systems and analysis systems for the purposes of quality control and error estimation.

A brief description of the system will be given, followed by examples from detailed studies into diurnal variability of SST, validation of global analysis systems and validation of METOP-A SST products. A demonstration of expansion into ocean wave model validation will also be given, along with a report describing on going collaboration between the Globcolour and MEDSPIRATION projects to expand the HR-DDS into service within the Ocean Colour community.
