Smoke plume detection with (A)ATSR

Abstract

The previous version of the AATSR dual view (ADV) algorithm often failed to detect smoke plumes, especially over land. In this work we have used new, upgraded ADV algorithm to study several forest fire episodes at different locations in Europe and North America. Results show that the new ADV algorithm has clearly improved the smoke plume detection over land.
