Abstract

Abstract:The evapotranspiration over a heterogeneous landscape of the Loess Plateau is essential and critical issue, the utilization of satellite remote sensing has unique advantage in this aspect. In this paper, the potential of using remote sensing data from Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS), one of the onboard sensors of the Environmental Satellite was established to explore estimates of the land surface albedo, plant coverage and land surface energy fluxes on 27 June, 2005. The ‘Splits Window’ algorithm was used to estimate the surface temperature from Advanced the Along-Track Scanning Radiometer (AATSR), another onboard senor of the Environmental Satellite. The net radiation, sensible heat flux and soil heat flux were computed with consideration of the vegetation canopy and land surface characteristics. Then, the daily evapotranspiration was derived by combining the data of solar radiation, atmosphere temperature, solar daily time and wind speed from the weather station. Comparison of the latent heat flux between ground observation collected from the LOess Plateau land surface process field EXperiment (LOPEX), the maximum and minimum error of this approach is 10.96% and 4.80% respectively, the cause of the bias was also explored and discussed.
