The Landmap service has been engaged in the acquisition, and processing of Envisat ASAR data for the past 18 months. The use of radar data is very much restricted by the perception of difficulty in acquisition, processing to precise geo-coded products and interpretation of the resultant images. The object of this exercise is to move the use of ASAR data from the realm of the of specialists ASAR to the general area of remote sensing applications.

This is done through the provision of precisely geo-coded and calibrated ASAR data for use by the academic community. The data is made available to users through download from the Landmap service. Http:// In addition the data is also available through OGC WMS/WCS services and also Image Streaming directly to image processing software.

Although these products have been made available to the academic community very little use has been observed. In order to promote the use of ASAR data we have undertaken several strategies.

1. Collaborations with Remote Sensing Users 2. Presentations and promotion of the use of ASAR data 3. Creation of Educational materials on the Use of ASAR data

This paper will report on our efforts and reports about the lessons learnt and provide recommendations to increase usage of ASAR data.
