Long-term Validation of MIPAS products based on balloon measurements

MIPAS on Envisat has been operated in two different instrumental and operational settings (1) between the launch in 2002 and early 2004 at high spectral resolution along with moderate spatial sampling, and (2) thereafter, at reduced spectral resolution but enhanced spatial sampling. The paper focuses on comparisons of geophysical products of MIPAS (processed with the ESA operational processor and its scientific predecessor ORM) to balloon measurements performed between 2005 and 2009 in the Tropics and in the Arctic. The assessment of the product quality in this period will be related to results achieved for the validation period 2002 to 2004 when MIPAS was operated in high spectral resolution but at restricted spatial sampling.
