Constrained regularization methods for ozone profile retrieval from UV/VIS nadir spectrometers

In this paper we present several constrained regularization methods for ozone profile retrieval from nadir sounding instruments such as GOME, SCIAMACHY, OMI, GOME-2. These methods incorporate the Tikhonov regularization and the iteratively regularized Gauss-Newton method with an equality constraint. The constraint is the vertical column which is computed with an independent algorithm like DOAS or GODFIT. It will be shown that the use of this type of constraint significantly improves the accuracy and stability of the profile retrieval.
