Evaluation of ALOS-PALSAR Polarimetric Modes Capabilities for Landcover Monitoring and Mapping.

In this work we evaluate the capabilities of ALOS-PALSAR data for landcover monitoring and mapping in the framework of the CORINE LANDCOVER (CLC). First a full polarimetric data set has been classified based on decomposition and supervised an unsupervised algorithms. Then, ‘Cloude’s Dual polarized entropy/alpha’ has been applied in order to verify its application to landcover characterization. The aim of this analysis is to verify which different categories are correctly discriminated by these two different data sets. Finally, qualitative interpretation based on ‘Pauli’s Representation’ has also been tested. It shows that this approach is a good complement to interpretation of multispectral imagery for deriving landcover information.
