Preliminary results monitoring mass movement along the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site

Understanding the dynamics of landslides and predicting their occurrence is a common theme in the study of natural hazards, including the application of InSAR. This paper presents preliminary results of monitoring mass movement caused by some of the world’s largest coastal landslides along the UNESCO designated Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site in the United Kingdom. Two-pass Interferometric SAR (InSAR) techniques (using ROI PAC) have been applied to pairs of Fine Beam Single-polarization (FBS) data from PALSAR to detect subtle ground movement. The long wavelength (L-band) has proved more suitable than C-band for the steep slopes and temperate climate of this field site. InSAR analysis has been augmented using change detection using Digital Surface Models (DSM) created from PRISM and other optical imagery.
