Eddies near the Lofoten (Norway)
This
ERS-1 SAR image from 26 March 1993 is an example of eddy currents through short
wave-current interaction near the Lofoten Islands.
The curved lines in the interpretation figure
indicate regions of high backscatter, probably caused by roughened surface water
within certain sectors of the eddies.
The synoptic wind was reported to be southerly 7-8 m/s (see Weather
Map).
