Southern Weddell Sea
 This
ERS-1 SAR image, acquired on 13-7-1992, shows different ice regimes in the southern
Weddell Sea off Ronne Ice Shelf (see the location of the SAR
image ). The ice shelf is shown in the most southern part of the image.
Off the ice shelf edge newly formed ice is visible which has been developed
during different events of off ice wind conditions. In the northern part of
the image relatively smooth firstyear ice is visible. This ice was formed also
in the offshore regime earlier in the year as observed by SSM/I time series.
